Overtime Goal Lifts Soccer To 2-1 Victory

SAN MARCOS, Texas – After Appalachian State tied up the contest in the 51st minute to force the match into overtime, senior Jourdan Brown lifted the Bobcats to a 2-1 victory with a goal in the 93rd minute. Brown fired her shot from the right side of the box off of a rebound on her shot just seconds prior.

With the victory, the Bobcats improve to 8-3-1 overall and 3-0-0 in the Sun Belt Conference. Texas State handed Appalachian State its first loss in during the conference season as it fell to 5-7-0 overall and 2-1-0 in conference play.

In the 18th minute of the contest, senior Tori Hale put the first notch on the board after pulling the goalkeeper out of the box and sailing a shot to the left corner of the net. Hale received her pass from Lynsey Curry to tally her fourth goal of the 2014 season.

Neither team maintained total control in the first half as the Bobcats finished with seven shots compared to five by the Mountaineers.

Appalachian State applied more pressure to start the second half, forcing the Bobcat defense to step in for a team save just over a minute into action.

That Mountaineer pressure paid off just moments later as Merlin Beckwith tied up the contest with her third goal of the season. After a pair of passes to the right side of the box, Beckwith went one-v-one with Bobcat goalkeeper Caitlynn Rinehart.

The first bit of Bobcat pressure in the second half came just 12 minutes in when Curry fired a shot that missed just left.

The Mountaineers held command of the second half as they outshot the Bobcats 12-4.

Overall, the Bobcats were outshot by a margin of 18-13 in the match. Appalachian State also recorded eight corners to Texas State's three.

Curry led the Bobcats with five shots and Rinehart finished the game with three saves en route to her eighth victory.

The Bobcats will return to action at the Bobcat Soccer Complex next Friday evening against South Alabama. Kick-off against the Jaguars is scheduled for 7 p.m. Live stats, live video, and live audio will be available at www.txstatebobcats.com.
