Soccer Defeats UL Lafayette On Senior Day

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State soccer team wrapped up the 2014 home slate with a 2-1 victory over the UL Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns on Sunday afternoon. Tori Hale and Maddie Nichols each scored a goal in the first half to lift the Bobcats to victory.


 
Texas State improves to 10-5-1 overall and 5-2-0 in conference play. With 10 victories, the 2014 Bobcats have become the ninth team under the direction of Kat Conner to reach the 10-win mark.
 
Hale's goal was scored in the 10th minute of the contest as she broke away from a defender just outside of the goal to score from the right side. Hale's goal was her team-leading fifth goal of the season and it gave Texas State the early lead.
 
The Bobcats continued to maintain possession in the first half and it paid off in the 39th minute of the contest when Maddie Nichols connected on a pass from Rachel Grout to score her first goal of the season.
 
Texas State outshot the Ragin' Cajuns 9-5 in the first half.
 
Texas State continued to put pressure on the Ragin' Cajuns in the second half, but struggled to tack on another goal.
 
In the 68th minute of the contest, UL Lafayette cut the Bobcat lead in half with a goal by Elizabeth Manual. Her goal was unassisted after she shot it from the right side of the box.
 
After UL Lafayette scored its goal, the Bobcat defense buckled down and proceeded to shutout the Ragin' Cajuns for the remainder of the contest.
 
Texas State finished the game with 16 shots compared to eight by the Ragin' Cajuns. Hale led all players on the field with five shots of which three were on goal.
 
The Bobcats will now travel to Georgia for the final two regular season games of the 2014 season. First, the Bobcats will take on Georgia Southern on Friday evening at 6 p.m. central time and then take on Georgia State on Sunday at 12 p.m. Live stats and live video will be available at txstatebobcats.com.
