SAN MARCOS, Texas – Goals by Rachel Grout and Lynsey Curry along with nine key saves by goalkeeper Caitlynn Rinehart lifted the Texas State soccer team to a 2-0 victory against the Troy Trojans on Sunday afternoon.

The Bobcats improve to 9-4-1 overall and 4-1-0 in Sun Belt Conference play with the victory.

Two of Texas State's freshman made the first impact of the contest as Grout scored just outside of the net after Brooke Ramsey sent a cross over from the right side. Grout's goal was her fourth of the season and the assist was Ramsey's first collegiate point.

The first half started in favor of the Trojans as they quickly got out to a 7-1 shot advantage in the first 20 minutes of play. The Bobcats then held the Trojans from firing off a shot throughout the remainder of the half.

Just under two minutes into the second half, Curry extended the Bobcats lead with a breakaway goal from the left side of the field. Her goal was unassisted.

The Bobcat defense allowed Troy's first shot in over 20 minutes in the 53rd minute of the contest.

After Texas State picked up momentum early in the second half, Troy battled back to present three corners in a matter of minutes in the middle of the half. Texas State goalkeeper Caitlynn Rinehart came up with three huge saves to keep the score at 2-0 in favor of the Bobcats.

Troy continued to put pressure on the Bobcat defense, but the defense stepped up to keep the score at 2-0.

The Trojans finished the game with 19 shots compared to just 10 by the Bobcats. Curry led the Bobcats with four shots. Texas State did record six corners to Troy's five.

Texas State has now recorded six shutouts this season.

The Bobcats will remain at home next weekend with a pair of games against UL Monroe and UL Lafayette. Kick-off against UL Monroe is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday evening. Friday's contest is also Pink Out night at the Bobcat Soccer Complex. Live stats and live video can be found at txstatebobcats.com.
