The Texas State athletic department announced its tailgating initiatives for the 2013 football season today. Most notably is the ability of Texas State fans to tailgate on a first-come, first-serve basis, for $10 per parking spot in Bobcat Alley in the Strahan Coliseum lot at the corner of Aquarena Springs Drive and Charles Austin or in other parking lots. This year tailgating will be a simple process, allowing the fans to focus on the fun of getting together before the game.
Spaces in Bobcat Alley per individual or group are unlimited and open to all groups such as student organizations, RV's, alumni and groups of individual fans. Fans should enter the lot off Aquarena Springs Drive on the south end. All other entrances into this lot will be closed on game day.
For those with RV's, they are allowed setup in the Strahan Coliseum lot the day of the game, or into the Mill Street lot if they plan on arriving the Friday night before the game after 5:00 p.m. RV's will be charged a flat rate of $35 which will provide three parking spots. RV's are also allowed to remain in the Mill Street lot if they so desire.
Bobcat Alley in the Strahan Coliseum Lot will open starting at 8:00 am the morning of the game. All other lots available for tailgating will open at 11:00 am.
Another location that is open to tailgating is the Bobcat Club Reserved East & West Lots. The first three rows of parking spaces closest to Aquarena Springs Drive will be converted to a tailgating lot for Bobcat Club members only, including members who join through the Young Alumni Program. This tailgate area will follow the same tailgating rules as the existing donor tailgate lot on the west side parking lot. While donor RVs will be allowed in the east side lot, there will be no reserved RV spaces. The donor tailgate lot on the west side of the stadium will be unaffected by these changes. Reserved RV spaces and donor parking passes can be purchased by contacting the Bobcat Club at 512-245-2114.
Notable rules for tailgating include:
- Tailgate participants are asked to keep their tailgate set-ups contained within the marked spaces. Driving lanes should be kept clear of tailgate set-ups to allow accesss for emergency and university vehicles.
- Non-alcoholic beverages and food must be available if alcoholic beverages are present. Food and non-alcoholic beverages must be featured more prominently than alcoholic beverages.
- No glass containers, hard liquor, kegs, party balls, or group containers (i.e. common source) are allowed.
- Tailgating where alcohol is present may not begin in designated areas before 9:00 a.m. on game days.
- Tailgating WILL BE suspended 20 minutes prior to the start of the game until the end of the fourth quarter. Fans are strongly encouraged to begin making arrangements to suspend their tailgates approximately 30 minutes prior to kickoff so that they may enjoy pre-game festivities in the stadium and show their support for the Bobcats. At any given time after kickoff, a maximum of TWO (2) individuals may stay at their personal tailgating area to ensure that their property remains safe and contained. No alcoholic consumption is allowed after kickoff and throughout the game.
