Ruston, La.

– In its second game of the day Texas State came out on top with a 5-1 victory over No. 6 UT Arlington. The Bobcats never trailed in the game as they knocked of their second opponent of the day.

Texas State (18-37) scored first when it jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Freshman Kelli Baker led the game off with a single to centerfield, followed by a bunt single by senior Brooke Baker. K. Baker was able to record the first run of the game after an error by the UTA third baseman on the play.

The Bobcats one-run edge would not hold very long, as the Lady Mavericks were able to score one run on an RBI double to left field by Megan Michelle in the bottom of the inning.

The run by UTA (25-28) did not discourage Texas State as it continued to swing the bats well. The Bobcats registered a trio of hits in the second inning, including another RBI single by B. Baker to give Texas State a 2-1 advantage.

Both teams left runners on base in the third inning, but it was the Bobcats who continued to score as B. Baker notched her third RBI of the day when Timishia North scored from third on a single up the middle in the fourth inning.

Despite two outs and a 2-2 count, senior Macie Hair went yard for the first time of her career when she sent the ball over the left field wall to give the Bobcats a 4-1 lead in the top of the fifth inning.

Hair had another good hit in the game, but this time it came in the top of the seventh when she recorded a stand-up RBI double to right field to increase Texas State's lead to 5-1.

Texas State out-hit UT Arlington 14-7. B. Baker led the Bobcats at the plate with a 3-for-4 performance, including three RBIs. North also finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored.

Rayn House (8-17) earned the win after a complete-game performance. Teri Lyles (21-13) pitched all seven innings for UTA. She fanned one batter in the loss.

Texas State will play its third game of the day when it takes on New Mexico State at 7 p.m. If the Bobcats beat the Aggies, they will face No. 1 San Jose State tomorrow in the championship game at 2 p.m.
