WAC Tournament Info

San Marcos, Texas –
Texas State women's golf team looks to cap off a splendid regular season with a WAC conference championship, beginning Monday at the Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz. The Bobcats enter the event as the second-ranked team in the WAC, with a national ranking of 36 according to Golfstat.

"We are very excited to get to AZ and compete to win a championship,” head coach Mike Akers said. “We have no pressure as we have locked up our bid to the NCAA Regionals. It should be a great championship as the WAC is very strong in women's golf."

In addition to having a very strong team, the Bobcats boast one of the top players in the country as Krista Puisite leads the nation in birdies with 100 and is ninth nationally in scoring average at 72.19. She has tied a school record with three individual championships this season and set a new career Texas State mark with five titles. She is one of two players on the team who have the experience of winning a conference championship.

"Krista and Valdis [Jonsdottir] won the Southland Conference Championship as freshmen and I want to see them go out with another championship as seniors. They have been a part of something special here at Texas State."

There will be 54 holes played this week, with 18 each on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Live scoring is available on Golfstat.com.
