Sacramento, Calif. – On day two of the Capital Classic hosted by Sacramento State, the Bobcats fell to Kansas 4-2 and Fresno State 6-1. The pair of losses drops Texas State to 1-2 in the tournament with one game remaining.
Game 1
Kansas took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, after Hull who led off with a triple scored on a single to left field by Hugo.
The Bobcats responded in the third inning with a pair of runs. Brooke Baker and Haley Lemons had back-to-back singles, followed by an RBI double to right center by Courtney Harris that gave Texas State the 2-1 edge.
The Jayhawks tied it up in the fourth inning when Brickley doubled to right center to push Hull home for the tie.
Kansas was able to add two more runs in the sixth inning thanks to an RBI triple by Newman and an RBI double by Hull.
Texas State was unable to get a runner on base in the final two innings as it fell to the Jayhawks 4-2.
Kansas outhit Texas State 10-5, while the Bobcats committed one error.
Ashley Wright (3-8) was handed the loss after 5.2 innings in the circle. Baker finished 2-for-3, while Lemons, Harris, and Wright all collected one hit apiece.
Game 2
Fresno State grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first inning when it scored a pair of runs on a fielder's choice and a steal.
It was Texas State's chance to get on the scoreboard Haley Lemons had an RBI double to left center in the first inning that sent Kellie Baker home for the Bobcats first run of the day.
A RBI triple in the third inning by Michelle Solomon, followed by a solo home run in the fourth inning by Whitney Smith gave Fresno State a 4-1 edge through four innings of play.
Fresno State was able to tack on two more runs in the fifth inning to take a five-run lead.
The Bobcats battled back in the seventh inning with the bases loaded and two outs, but they were unable to score any runs.
Rayn House (2-9) suffered the loss after 4.2 innings in the circle.
Texas State will continue play in the tournament tomorrow with an 11 a.m. game versus St. Mary's to close out play in the Capital Classic.
