San Marcos, Texas – Hot three point shooting in the first half proved to be enough for Texas State, which saw the women's basketball team knock off Louisiana Tech, 68-63, Saturday afternoon at Strahan Coliseum. The Bobcats finished the day with eight made three-pointers, six of which came in the first half.
Texas State gained control of the game thanks to a 19-2 run in the first half that saw the Bobcats go from down 17-10, to leading 29-19 over a span of about five minutes. The team used the three-point line as its biggest weapon with five three-point baskets coming in the stretch from four different players. Jasmine Baugus was the lone player to make two threes in that stretch, helping her to finish with 14 points, one of four Bobcats in double figures.
The Bobcats opened their lead to as big as 14 in the first half, taking a 35-21 lead following two straight baskets by Erin Peoples, who finished the game with seven points and seven rebounds.
La. Tech made a run in the second half, cutting what was a 14-point Texas State lead at halftime, down to just a one-point advantage with 1:02 to play. The Bobcats would not let the pressure faze them, as they went to the line and knocked down five free throws in the final minute to keep the Lady Techsters at arm reach. Ayriel Anderson's two made foul shots with 12 seconds to go, gave Texas State a 67-63 lead, which was too much for La. Tech to overcome.
The Bobcats will next be in action on Saturday, Feb. 16, at 4:00 p.m., as they battle I-35 Rival UTSA in San Antonio. The game will be televised on Time Warner Channel 888. It will be broadcast on KTSW 89.9 FM, and txstatebobcats.com.
