Houston, Texas – Texas State fell to Lipscomb and Houston today on day two of the Hilton Houston Plaza Classic. The pair of losses knocks the Bobcats down to 0-4 to start the season.

In game one, the Bobcats jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Kelli Baker scored on a passed ball in the first inning. In the fourth inning, Haley Lemons had a leadoff walk, followed by a homerun over the left field wall by Katie Doerre to give the Bobcats a 3-0 advantage.

Lipscomb responded in the bottom of the fourth inning with a two-run homer to come to within one run of Texas State. Lipscomb capitalized on a few passed balls in the fifth inning to add three runs, and then tallied a pair of runs in the sixth inning to take a 7-3 lead that the Bobcats could not shake.

Baker finished 2-for-4, while Doerre recorded her first collegiate homerun. Ashley Wright (0-2) fanned a pair of batters in 4.0 innings of work in the loss.

Houston scored first in game two with a sacrifice fly in the first inning.

Texas State added a pair of runs in the second inning. Jordan Masek scored the Bobcats first run of the game when Shelby Carnline hit a sacrifice fly to left field. Coralee Ramirez added to Texas State's total with a solo homer over the left center wall to give the Bobcats a 2-1 edge.

Houston was able to score three runs in the third inning, and one each in the fourth and fifth inning to take a 6-2 lead.

The Bobcats fought back in the sixth inning when Ramirez homered again, this time driving in three runs to bring Texas State to within one. Unfortunately, the Cougars scored another run in the sixth inning while Texas State was not able to make a comeback. Houston earned the 7-5 win after Texas State went three-and-out in the final inning.

Ramirez finished 2-for-3 with a pair of homeruns and four RBI. Senior Anne Marie Taylor (0-2) fanned one batter in 2.2 innings in the circle.

Texas State will finish play in the Hilton Houston Plaza Classic tomorrow with a game versus Houston at 2 p.m.
