SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State women's basketball team preps to start a four-game home stand when it welcomes I-35 rival UTSA on Sunday. The Bobcats will tip-off against the Roadrunners at 1 p.m. at Strahan Coliseum.
With three, non-conference games remaining on its schedule, the UTSA women's basketball team is 5-4 to start the 2013-14 season. The Roadrunners are coming off of three straight victories including back-to-back overtime victories against Norfolk State (72-63) and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (55-50).
The Roadrunners are under the direction of Lubomyr Lichonczak, who is in his first season as the head coach of UTSA. Lichonczak, a graduate of Idaho, is in his 12
th year overall as a head coach with an overall record of 156-155.
Kamra King leads the Roadrunners in scoring, averaging 15.6 points per contest. Mannasha Bell and Tesha Smith each lead the team with 6.0 rebounds per game.
UTSA shoots 61.0 percent from the free throw line and 35.2 from the field through all nine games this season.
Last season, the Roadrunners were 16-14 overall and as a member of the WAC, they were 10-8 in conference play. The last time that these two squads faced off against each other was last February when the Roadrunners defeated the Bobcats 74-65.
Texas State will have one more non-conference game on its schedule before beginning conference play on Jan. 2. On Dec. 29, the Bobcats welcome the St. Thomas Celts to Strahan Coliseum for a 2 p.m. tip-off.
