Dallas, Texas – The Texas State men's basketball team had its best three-point shooting day of the season, but it was not enough as the Bobcats fell 70-49 Wednesday night at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland.
Texas State took an early 6-2 lead behind two straight away three-pointers by Joel Wright. However, SMU responded by going on a 14-0 run, using its size to score 12 of its first 14 points in the paint.
Later in the half, the Bobcat defense tightened up a bit, forcing five first half Mustang turnovers. Wright had the highlight of the first half, getting a steal and going coast-to-coast, capping his team-high eight points in the first 20 minutes.
The Bobcats' three-point shooting picked up in the second half, hitting four from long distance, giving Texas State a season-high eight on the night. Wright tied his career-high with four made threes, having half of the team's eight from beyond the arc, and finished with a game-high 21 points.
Texas State will return home in five days to play South Dakota in a rematch from the 2012 BracketBuster game, which the Bobcats won 93-92.
