Women's Basketball Dominates Defensively With 58-49 Road Win Over New Mexico State

The Texas State women's basketball team snapped a three-game losing streak Thursday night, coming away with a big road win, 58-49 over New Mexico State, Thursday night at the Pan American Center in Las Cruces, N.M. Diamond Ford led the Bobcats with 21 points.

 

Texas State took control of the game, when it was 40-37. From there, Texas State was able to go on an 11-0 run capitalized by a right-wing Ford three-pointer, giving her 21 points at the game.  During the run the Bobcats frustrated the Aggies defensively, as part of a performance that saw New Mexico State shoot just 28.6 percent (8-of-28) in the second half.

 

Ford got hot midway through the first half. She hit four straight shots and five of six, to key Texas State on a 13-5 run, which saw the Bobcats take a 15-12 lead. Ford finished the first half with 12 points on 6-of-12 shooting. The Aggies however were able to get back into the game and take a one-point lead, 26-25 into halftime.

 

Jasmine Baugus and Erin Peoples were both big for Texas State in supporting roles as both ladies came away with double-doubles. Baugus had her second career double-double with 15 points and a career-high 15 rebounds. Peoples had 10 points and 13 boards, her third of the season.

 

The Bobcats will next be in action on Saturday at 2:00 p.m., central as they take on Denver. The game can be heard on 89.9 FM KTSW.
