Women's Basketball Overcome By Vandals Shooting, 72-60

The Texas State women's basketball team got off to a strong start Thursday, but it was not enough as the Bobcats fell victim to red hot shooting from the No. 8 three-point shooting team in the country, 72-60 to Idaho, Thursday night at Strahan Coliseum.

 

Texas State began the game on fire, jumping out to a 19-9 lead in the first seven minutes of the game. Kaylan Martin led the Bobcats during the stretch, with eight points and a steal. She scored five of the team's first eight points.

 

Idaho answered Texas State with a 29-5 run to end the first half.  The Vandals were 5-of-9  from three-point range during that run, and finished the first 20 minutes 6-of-11 from deep. Idaho came into the game averaging eight made three-pointers per game, and finished with nine.

 

Texas State made a run in the second half, going on a 27-16 run in the last 13 minutes of the game. Diamond Ford scored 17 of her game-high 25 points in the second period, including 7-of-7 from the free throw line. As a team the Bobcats were 12-of-13 from the charity stripe.

 

Overall Texas State outscored the Vandals 36-34 in the second period. The Bobcats limited Idaho to 3-of-10 in the second half from behind the arc and won the rebounding battle 24-22.

 

The Bobcats will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 2:00 p.m., in Strahan Coliseum as they take on Seattle
