Ruston, La. – Playing in one of the most historic venues in college women's basketball history, the Texas State women's basketball team fell to Louisiana Tech, , Thursday night at the Thomas Assembly Center in Ruston, La. The Bobcats outscored the Lady Techsters 33-32 in the second half.
Louisiana Tech jumped on Texas State from the start, going on a 7-0 run to begin the game. The Lady Techsters continued their surge throughout the first half, beginning the game 4-of-5 from three-point range, as opposed to the difficult start for the Bobcats, which saw them go just 2-of-11 to begin the game from the outside.
Towards the end of the first half, Diamond Ford tried to shoot the Bobcats back into the game. She hit a left corner three and a fade-away to finish the first 20 minutes with 13 of her game-high 25 points to lead the team. Texas State trailed 39-25 at the break.
Texas State came out in the second half and went on a 5-0 run to cut the lead to 41-32. The two teams traded baskets for the majority of the period with the Bobcats only able to close to within 50-43 after Erin Peoples hit a right wing three. Peoples finished the game with 15.
Louisiana Tech went on a 12-5 run from that point to extend the lead to 62-48 with 4:00 to go. Leading the charge for the Lady Techsters was Kelia Shelton who hit a right wing three to make it a 65-48 lead. She finished the game with 18 points, including seven in the last five minutes of the game.
Texas State will be back in action on Saturday at 6:00 p.m., in Arlington, Texas, to take on old Southland Conference foe, UT Arlington. The game can be heard on 89.9 FM KTSW.
