Victoria, Texas –
The Texas State men's golf team moved up the leaderboard with a 2-under 286 Monday due to Juan Diego Plasencia record setting 6-under 66 and Juan Carlos Benitez' 3-under 69 after the second-round at the Jim West Intercollegiate.

The Bobcats now sit in 4th-place heading into the final round tomorrow and are nine shots back from tournament leader Idaho.

Plasencia paced the field thru the front nine striking birdies on the 1st, 4th, 5th, 8th, and 9th holes.  Plasencia carried his hot streak to the back nine with birdies on three of the first four holes before dropping two shots on the 18th with a double bogie. His 66 tied three former Bobcats for the school record; most recently Corey Roberson achieved that mark at the UTSA Intercollegiate during the 2008-09 season.

Alastair Jones followed up his first-round score 71, 1-under, with a 73 1-over Monday. Jones birdied two holes on his first nine but recorded bogie and double bogie on the back nine to finish the day.

The Jim West Intercollegiate will conclude Tuesday morning via shotgun start at 8:00 a.m. Follow the final round live on golfstat.com.
