Box Score

Thibodaux, La.
– Texas State softball snapped its five-game win streak as it fell to Nicholls, 1-0, this afternoon at the Colonel Softball Complex. The loss drops the Bobcats to 22-12 and 8-2 in conference play. The Colonels improve to 8-21, 4-4 in league play.

Nicholls used the fifth inning to take the lead on Texas State. First baseman Leah Andrus had a leadoff double to right center to get things going for the Colonels. Andrus advanced to second on a groundout before scoring at the plate on a single to left field by Ashton Bennett.

Texas State stranded Lemons at third in both the second and fourth innings, unable to drive the first baseman home.

After a leadoff walk by Shelby Carnline in the top of the seventh inning, pinch hitter Coralee Ramirez singled to centerfield and advanced to second on an error to put runners on second and third with one out. Pinch hitter Courtney Harris popped up to the pitcher for the second out of the game, with the Bobcats clinging to life. Selena Hernandez was walked to load the bases setting the stage for Baker to make something happen. Unfortunately, Baker batter the ball back to the pitcher and pinch runner Brittney Garcia was tagged out at the plate to end the game.

The Colonels collected four hits in the fifth innings as they outhit the Bobcats, 6-4. Ashton Bennett earned her fourth win of the season to improve to 4-7 on the year. Anne Marie Taylor suffered the loss in the circle. The lefty fanned two batters in 5.0 innings of action.

Texas State will conclude its six-game road swing on Wednesday, April 4 at the University of Houston. The doubleheader versus the Cougars will begin at 4:00 p.m.
