Victoria, Texas – The Texas State men's golf team recorded a 295 7-over in the opening round at the Jim West Intercollegiate with Alastair Jones leading the way for the Bobcats firing a 71 1-under Sunday afternoon.

Texas State's opening round score places the team in 6^th-place, 11 shots off the lead held by Stephen F. Austin.

Jones' score sets him in a tie for 7^th-place toward the individual lead. Jones shot 2-over par on the front nine before recording birdies on the 13^th, 15^th and 17^th holes.

Christoffer Arvidsson began the day birding two of his first five holes before hitting bogeys on the 8^th and 9^th, he completed the day with a 1-over 73. Arvidsson's total was the Bobcats second-best score on the afternoon and placed him in an individual tie for 17^th at the tournament.

Tyler Thomas notched a 2-over 74 for the Bobcats for a tie in 23^rd while Juan Diego Plasencia and Juan Carlos Benitez both shot a 3-over 75 on the day placing the two in a tie for 40^th.
