Men’s Basketball Cruises to 94-63 Victory Over Central Arkansas

– Texas State led by as many as 36 points tonight, as it routed visiting Central Arkansas, 94-63. The Bobcats saw production from its entire lineup to finish the game 53.7 percent from the floor. Texas State improved to 9-14 overall and 2-8 in the Southland Conference. Central Arkansas fell to 7-15, 2-8 SLC.


Travis Jones recorded his second double-double of the season as the senior guard finished with 16 points and 11 boards. Brooks Ybarra added 21 points and five rebounds. Eddie Rios rounded out the Bobcats double digit scoring with 12 points and three steals.

The Bobcats tied their third-best scoring performance of the season as they took command of the game from the start and never looked back. Texas State's energy could be seen on both sides of the ball tonight. The Bobcats grabbed 49 rebounds and held UCA to 36.2 percent shooting from the floor.

Texas State came out of halftime to outscore the Bears 22-9 with eight different players contributing to the run. Gordon Ball was powerful off the bench as the big man grabbed seven rebounds in just 11 minutes off the bench. Ball made big plays for Texas State down the stretch and the Bobcats were able to cruise to the victory tonight at Strahan Coliseum.

Texas State jumped out to an 11-0 run to start the game thanks to a pair of put-backs from Jones that got the game rolling. The Bobcats held the Bears scoreless for the first 4:17 before UCA was able to knock down a free throw to snap the scoring drought. Texas State led by as many as 16 points in the period with nine minutes to go in the half. The Bobcats held the Bears to zero fast break points in the half as they took a 15-point lead into the locker room.

Jarvis Garner led UCA in scoring with 18 points and 15 rebounds. Robert Crawford came off the bench to add 12 points

The Bobcats will travel to UT Arlington this weekend for a Saturday match-up versus the Mavericks set to start at 7 p.m. Texas State returns to Strahan Coliseum on Wednesday, Feb. 11 to host A&M-Corpus Christi at 7 p.m.
