Game Notes
San Marcos, Texas – Texas State (10-15, 3-9 SLC) will begin its three-game road trip on Saturday, with a break in Southland conference play to compete in the Sears BracketBusters event. The Bobcats are set to play South Dakota on Feb. 18 at the Dakota Dome. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 p.m.
Series
Saturday will mark the first meeting between Texas State and South Dakota.
Scouting Texas State
Texas State cruised to a 79-61 victory over visiting A&M-Corpus Christi on Wednesday night. The Bobcats shot 46.9 percent from the field, while Matt Staff scored a career-high 23 points in route to a double-double to help lift the Bobcats to victory.
Texas State continues to lead the SLC in scoring offense (77.8 ppg) and is third in field goal percentage (.439), and second in three-point percentage (.365). The Bobcats are in fifth place in the SLC West Division standings with a 10-15 overall record and a 3-9 record in league play.
The Bobcats are led in scoring by senior Brooks Ybarra with 12.8 ppg and 3.5 rpg. Staff is second with 12.0 ppg and 7.5 rpg.
Scouting South Dakota
South Dakota is 9-16 with a Summit League record of 4-12 this season. The Coyotes are 6-5 at home this season.
The Coyotes are on a two-game losing streak with its most recent loss coming at IUPUI, 88-70 on Feb. 15.
In the loss to IUPUI, the Coyotes shot 45.5 percent from the field, while IUPUI shot 60.3 percent. USD connected on 10 triples. The Coyotes were led by Louie Krogman who scored 24 points. Trevor Gruis added 15 points.
• USD is led in scoring by Charlie Westbrook. He is averaging 18.0 points per game and 3.8 rpg. Krogman is second on the team in scoring with 15.9 ppg. The Coyotes score an average of 68.8 ppg, but are being rebounded by their opponents by 3.4 rpg.
Sears BracketBusters
The 142-team field will feature teams from 16 conferences: 12 each from Colonial Athletic Association, Mid-American Conference and Southland; 11 each from Ohio Valley Conference and Big South; 10 each from Horizon League, Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, Missouri Valley and Summit League; nine each from America East, Big Sky and Big West; eight from the Western Athletic Association; four from the Southern Conference; three from the MEAC; and two from the West Coast Conference.
As part of the agreement, all 13 of the Sears BracketBusters home teams in televised games, as well as the remaining 58 home squads, will play a return game at the home facility of their opponent in November or December of the 2013-14 season.
Sears BracketBusters is part of ESPN's college basketball franchise programming, along with Rivalry Week, Feast Week presented by Lowe's, Holiday Hoops Presented by Kay Jewelers, Judgment Week and Championship Week Presented by Dick's Sporting Goods.
