Bobcats Overpower UTPA in 73-58 Win at Home

Matt Staff recorded his second 20-plus point game of the season, and the Texas State men's basketball team beat UT Pan American 73-58 on Saturday to snap a two-game skid.

Joel Wright added 12 points and nine rebounds, while Reid Koenen tallied 11 points. Vonn Jones chipped in 10 points and tied his career-high of eight assists. Staff made all six of his free throws to extend his streak to 23 in a row since Nov. 9.

The Bobcats outscored the Broncs 26-18 in the paint in the second half. Texas State went on a 27-12 run to end the game. Wright and Koenen had 14 of the 27 points to help lift the Bobcats to victory.

Texas State was able to edge the Broncs in boards, pulling down 32 defensive rebounds and holding UT Pan American to 34.9 percent from the floor.

UT Pan American came to within six points of the Bobcats when Justin Leathers recorded a layup with 5:37 to go. Texas State responded with six unanswered points and cruised its way to a double digit victory.

The Broncs were led by Jesus Delgado who had 13 points and five rebounds. Brandon Provost chipped in 12 points and five rebounds.

Texas State will travel up I-35 for its next game as it will play the University of Texas on Saturday, Dec. 15. The game will air live on the Longhorn Network at 7 p.m.
