Diamond Ford Scores Career-High 40 Points In 98-96 Loss to San Jose State

Diamond Ford scored 29 second half points, as part of a career-high 40, but it was not enough as San Jose State upended Texas State, 98-96, Saturday afternoon at the Spartan Event Center in San Jose. The loss drops the Bobcats to 0-1 in WAC play.

 

The Bobcats were down 96-93 with 15 seconds to go when freshman Ayriel Anderson hit a right-wing three, her third of the game, to tie the game at 96-96. San Jose State was able to hit two free throws following a foul on the left sideline to take a 98-96 lead.

 

Ford had a chance to win the game, attempting a straight-away three with 0.9 seconds to go, but the attempt went off the rim, giving the Spartans the win.

 

Down 69-61 in the second half, Diamond Ford went off. She hit three straight three-point field goals, giving the Bobcats a 70-69 lead. Ford used another reverse layup to give Texas State its largest lead of the game at 77-71.

 

San Jose State dominated the first 10 minutes of the game, building a 27-12 lead at one point. From there, Texas State started to resemble the dominant team it can be at times, going on a 19-3 run to take a brief 31-30 lead, needing just 3:55 of game time to go on that spurt.

 

Texas State got back into the game thanks to collecting steals and running down the other end, including a three-pointer on the left wing by Taylor McGilbra that cut the Spartan lead to just one, 31-30.

 

The Spartans wouldn't go away, going on another run of their own before the end of the half to go on a 43-36.

 

Texas State will finish its two-game road trip on Monday at Utah State at 8:00 p.m., central. The game will be available on radio on KTSW 89.9 FM. Fans outside the San Marcos area, can listen on txstatebobcats.com.
