Houston, Texas
– The Texas State women's basketball team tried to fight back from an 18-point deficit, cutting it to within eight at one point, but it was not enough as the Bobcats fell to Houston, 74-61, Saturday afternoon at Hofheinz Pavillion in Houston.

Houston jumped out to a 28-15 lead during the first 12 minutes of the game. The Cougars were aided by making four of their first eight three-pointers along with getting the Bobcats in early foul trouble as Baugus and Ezeh picked up two apiece.

Towards the end of the first half, Texas State went on an 11-4 run to cut the deficit to 38-28. Diamond Ford keyed the run with four of her 12 first half points coming during that spurt. The Bobcats trailed 45-33 at halftime.

In the second half, it was a 12-4 run that helped Texas State trim the deficit from 53-35 to 57-48. The Bobcats increased their defensive intensity to force stops and were able to increase contact at the other end, resulting in free throws.  Texas State got as close as 62-54, before Houston was able to keep the Bobcats at bay for the remainder of the game.

Texas State will have a seven-day break over the Christmas holiday, before beginning WAC play on Dec. 29 in San Jose State against the Spartans. It will be the first of two straight road conference games, with Utah State up on Dec. 31, in Logan.
