San Marcos, Texas – Diamond Ford scored a season-high 31 points, and Ashley Ezeh recorded her fourth straight double-double , as the Texas State women's basketball team got past Kennesaw State, 75-61, Tuesday night at Strahan Coliseum in San Marcos. For the Bobcats (6-3), it was their third straight win.
The game was tight with 6:35 to go as Texas State led just 58-53. From there, the team went on a 7-0 run to take full control of the game and open up a 12-point lead with 4:53 to go. During the stretch Ford scored five of the team's seven points, as she darted through the lane for layups in traffic.
Ezeh helped the Bobcats open up the lead early on, scoring six of the team's first 12 points in the first six minutes of the game. She scored 10 points in each half to finish with 20 points, along with 14 rebounds.
Defensively, Texas State tightened up on the perimeter in the second half, holding the Owls to just 3-of-14 from three-point range, and just 25.0% for the game (6-of-24).
With the outside shot not falling, it was a constant mix of Ford and Ezeh in the lane, as Texas State outscored Kennesaw State 44-24 in the paint. Four Bobcats came up with at least seven rebounds on the night, as they overpowered the undersized Owls.
Texas State will next head on the road on Saturday, Dec. 22, for its final game before the Christmas holiday, when it plays at Houston.
