Corpus Christi, Texas – The Texas State women's basketball team had a fairly easy time disposing of former Southland Conference foe, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, beating the Islanders 69-51, Saturday night at the Dugan Wellness Center in Corpus Christi. Ashley Ezeh was the top player for the Bobcats, finishing with 15 points and a career-high 18 rebounds.
Ezeh dominated from the start, collecting seven points and five rebounds in just the first eight minutes of the game. She finished the first half with nine points and 10 rebounds.
Texas State took firm control of the game after the Islanders its lead to 12-11. The Bobcats then went on an ensuing 9-0 run to take a 21-11 lead and never looked back. Jasmine Baugus keyed the run with four points and an assist during the stretch.
In the second half the Bobcats stretched their lead to 42-26 with 15:17 remaining. The Islanders put a scare into Texas State, going on a 9-0 run to close the gap to 42-35.
Fortunately for Texas State it was hot three-point shooting which closed out the Islanders for good as Kaylan Martin hit a three, as part of a 10-2 run to give the Bobcats a 52-37 lead.
Ayriel Anderson put an exclamation mark on the night, hitting straight-away threes on back-to-back possessions, giving Texas State a 60-41 lead.
Texas State will return home on Tuesday for its last home game of the 2012 calendar year when it takes on Kennesaw State on Dec. 18 at 6:30 p.m., at Strahan Coliseum.
