San Marcos, Texas – Looking much like it did the opening week of the season, the Texas State women's basketball team had one of its biggest wins in recent memory, defeating Big 12 opponent TCU, 91-80, Sunday afternoon at Strahan Coliseum.
Texas State used its high pace style to gain the upper hand on the Horned Frogs, thanks in part to a 10-of-31 performance from three-point range. It was Raven Burns' three-pointer in the first half that gave the Bobcats a 14-7 lead, as part of an 18-4 run.
As good as the Bobcats were from three-point range offensively, they were just as suffocating defensively, forcing TCU to go just 6-of-29 from deep (20.7%). After opening the game with a three, the Horned Frogs did not make another one for 12 minutes, and finished the first half 3-of-13.
The Bobcats opened their lead to as large as 22-10 in the first half, before TCU clawed its way back to 41-37 at half. However in the second half it was all Texas State.
Coming out of the break, the Bobcats gained some distance from which TCU would never recover as Diamond Ford and Ashley Ezeh scored Texas State's first 14 points of the half during a 14-3 run that saw the team take a 55-41 lead. Ezeh finished with a game-high 26 points to go with 11 rebounds.
Later in the second half Texas State went up by as much as 18, leading 87-69 thanks to Jasmine Baugus hitting a straight-away three, one of two on the day for her.
Texas State looks to make it two Big 12 wins in a row on Wednesday, Nov. 28, when it heads to Stillwater, Okla., to take on Oklahoma State. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
