Tournament Bracket
San Marcos, Texas – The Texas State men's basketball team will hit the road for the Great Alaskan Shootout from Nov. 21-24. The Bobcats will play UNC Charlotte in their first game on Thursday at 10:30 p.m. CT. Other participants in the field include, host Alaska Anchorage, Belmont Loyola Marymount, Northeastern, Oral Roberts, and UC-Riverside. Thursday's game will be televised live on the CBS Sports Network.
Series
Texas State is 1-5 all-time versus the entire field, and has never played Belmont, Charlotte, Loyola Marymount or UC Riverside before. Coach Doug Davalos is 0-1 versus the field, as the Bobcats fell to Northeastern (86-78) back in 2010 at the ESPN Cancun Governor's Cup.
Scouting Texas State
Texas State will embark on its first road trip of the season. The Bobcats enter the tournament, 2-1, after a three-point loss to SMU on Saturday night. Leading the way for Texas State in the first-three games has been Joel Wright. The junior transfer is averaging 22.0 points per game and 7.7 rebounds per game. Senior Matt Staff is right behind him with 16.3 ppga nd 7.0 rpg.
Scouting UNC Charlotte
The 49ers are 3-0 heading into the Great Alaskan Shootout. UNC Charlotte has recorded wins over Charleston Southern, Georgia Southern, and Lamar. Chris Baswell is the 49ers leading scorer with an average of 15.0 points per game and 7.5 rebounds per game. Also averaging double figures is DeMario Mayfield (12.0 ppg), and Terrence Williams (11.7 ppg). The 49ers are shooting .429 from the field, and .189 from long range. UNC Charlotte has held all three of its opponents this season to 58 points or less.
