Women's Basketball Drops First Meeting Of Season To UTSA

– Offensive struggles plagued the Texas State women's basketball team Saturday, falling 67-53 to UTSA, at the Convocation Center in San Antonio. The Bobcats are now 2-2 on the Southland Conference season and 10-7 overall.

UTSA got up as much as 24-8 in the first half before Texas State ended the period on a 13-4 run. Jasmine Baugus led the charge during the stretch. With time winding down before halftime, she came from behind to steal a ball from a Roadrunner rebounder, collected the ball and went to the line to make her third free throw of the first half and fifth point overall.

Texas State scored most of their points from the free throw line in the first half. The Bobcats were 11-of-15 at the charity stripe in the first 20 minutes, led by Kaylan Martin who was 5-of-6. Martin finished as the leading scorer for the team, with her and Diamond Ford each scoring 11 points.

The Bobcats came out on fire in the second half, starting the period on a 14-9 run, to cut the Roadrunner lead to just 37-35. However UTSA would respond, going on a 6-0 spurt of its own to make it 43-35.

The two teams traded buckets for most of the second half, with Texas State only able to claw back to 50-45. UTSA was able to use clutch shooting down the stretch, owning a 51.9 shooting percentage in the second half.

Texas State will return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 25, at 7:00 p.m., when the Bobcats host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Last season the Bobcats swept the season series against the Islanders.
