Nashville, Tenn. – The Texas State women's basketball team finished its six-day road trip 2-1, beating Belmont 71-66, Wednesday afternoon at the Curb Event Center. Ashley Ezeh was the Bobcats' leading scorer for the second straight game with 17 points and seven rebounds.
With four minutes remaining, Texas State was down 57-55 when Demi Clinch hit straight-away three to give the Bobcats the lead again and start a 10-2 run which gave them a 65-59 lead. Texas State then hit their free throws down the stretch as part of a 20-of-21 effort on the night.
Texas State used some early pressure to run out to an early 17-2 lead. The Bobcats forced seven turnovers as part of their 17-0 run. Belmont responded to the Bobcats' run by going on a 10-2 march of their own to cut Texas State's lead to just seven.
The Bobcats pushed the advantage back to 27-17 with two minutes remaining, before the Bruins against made another run to cut the lead to 27-26. However Taylor McGilbra went on a 5-0 run in the waning seconds of the first half, hitting two free throws before making a three-point basket from the top of the key as time expired to give Texas State a 32-26 lead at the break.
Coming out of the break the Bruins came out red hot, tying the game up at 34-34. The Bobcats were not fazed and responded well, eventually retaking a 51-45 lead before Belmont tied it up and retook a two point lead.
The Bobcats will now have a week off before playing Houston Baptist at 5 p.m. on Dec. 28, at Strahan Coliseum.
