Senior outside hitter Lindy DeGeare sat down with TXStateBobcats.com for the 10th installment of a weekly Q&A with student-athletes from every sport. Lindy is in her first year with the Bobcats after transferring from Cal State University - Bakersfield where she earned NCAA Division I All-Independent First Team honors as a sophomore when she led all NCAA Division I Independents with 427 kills, the second most for the Runners since moving to Division I.
How has the transition been after transferring from Cal State University - Bakersfield to Texas State University?
"CSUB is a commuter college with an older student body so there was not a college atmosphere anything like the college atmosphere here at Texas State. The volleyball program is much more competitive here and there is a really strong family atmosphere, unlike CSUB. Coming here to Texas State has been a very nice surprise."
You had seven aces against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and the Texas State match record is nine. Did you have any idea you were so close during the match?
"Tracy (Smith) let me know I was close at the end of the third game and she told me she hoped we could have gone four sets so I could have possibly broke the record. Coming so close makes me want the record even more, and we play them again before the season is over so hopefully I will have a second chance."
Currently you lead the conference in serving aces and you are in the top-5 nationally. Has serving always been strong suite and do you enjoy that part of the game the most?
"My serve is definitely my strong suite. Last year at CSU it was not, but my freshman and sophomore years it was a very strong part of my game. Luckily, it has come back around this year I have been able to use it. I really enjoy serving because I am fairly good at it, but I love playing front row and hitting just as much so it is a tough choice between those two."
You had a season-high 16 kills against SFA. Did it feel like season-high type of game or do you even
notice those things during the game?
"It helps to have such a great setter as Caleigh McCorquodale, she puts the ball in the right spot and after she gains confidence in you the balls come your way more often. That game we were on fire and we clicked. It was a great feeling during the entire match."
The Bobcats are tied for first with UTSA and that game is on Thursday in San Antonio. What are your feelings at this point about the game?
"For the seniors, this is our last chance to get something like this accomplished and then hopefully win the last five games and make it to the NCAA tournament. We want to go out with a bang and get a win on Thursday. I am not really nervous – we know what we need to do to get the win, and I think we can do it. Our last match against UTSA, we did not play our best but we are ready this time."
Being a senior, you are coming close to finishing your degree and graduation. What do you plan on doing after you graduate?
"I changed my major back to public administration, and I have a few possibilities I am thinking about. My parents are in law enforcement, and I would like to do that. I have also considered joining the Air Force. I would eventually like to join the FBI, so the Air Force or law enforcement would give me the experience I need to possibly get in."
