Women's Basketball Renews I-35 Rivalry Saturday When It Hosts UTSA

Game Notes

San Marcos, Texas
– The I-35 rivalry will be renewed on Saturday, when the Texas State women's basketball team hosts UTSA at 4:00 p.m. at Strahan Coliseum. The two schools are separated by just 53.71 miles from door-to-door of each coliseum.

In the last meeting between the schools on March 3, 2010, UTSA came away with a narrow three point victory, 58-55. Diamond Ford led all scorers with 18 points in that contest, including a three-pointer with five seconds to go to make it a one-point game before the Roadrunners sunk a pair of free throws to ice the game.

Texas State is looking to beat UTSA for the first time since Feb. 23, 2008 in San Antonio. That year the Bobcats won the Southland Conference regular season championship.

In the last game against Sam Houston State, Chika Ofoegbu and Verinus Kalu led the way, each posting career-highs. Ofoegbu had a career-high 17 rebounds and four assists, while Kalu had a personal-best 15 points. Kalu also drew three charges in the first four minutes to put the Bearkats in early foul trouble.

Following the game, the Bobcats will travel to Corpus Christi to take on the Islanders on Wednesday Jan. 26 at 7:00 p.m. The next Orange and Maroon matchup will be on Feb. 26 in San Antonio.
