Day Two of SLC Track and Field Championships Complete

ARLINGTON, Texas - The Texas State men's and women's track and field teams continued to score points and perform well after day two of the Southland Conference Championships at Maverick Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Wrapping up the heptathlon today was Valerie Hancock, who placed sixth with 4,433 points. Danessa Lyssy grabbed seventh with 4,403 points.

The Bobcat women collected 18.5 points to dominate the high jump, finishing 1-4-6 and tied for eighth. Freshman Lisa Bingham won the event with a height of1.72 meters (5-07.75). Reigning champion Valerie Hancock placed fourth, Asiya Iskakova took sixth and Brooke Hewitt tied for eighth.

Leaping to a personal best distance of 5.94 meters (19-06.00) was Renee Shepard who captured fourth place in the long jump event.

Daniel Schmidt placed sixth in the men's shot put with a mark of 14.87 meters (48-09.50). Schmidt also took fifth in the hammer throw yesterday.

Tomorrow will be the third and last day of the championships. Advancing to the finals of the men's 1,500 meters is Matt Novak. Novak recorded a time of 4:04.44 in the prelims. Timothy Young will participate in the 100-meter hurdle finals after clocking a time of 14.53 seconds this afternoon. Kevin Aje will be the lone Bobcat in the 100-meter finals. Aje registered a prelim time of 10.59 seconds.

The trio of William Taudien, Will Stewart and Jack Petersen all made it to the 800-meter finals. Taudien posted the fastest time of the three in 1:54.04.

For the women, both Iris Darrington and Shepard advanced to the 100 and 200-meter finals. Darrington finished the races in 11.97and 24.22 and Shepard was right behind her in 12.04 and 22.48 seconds, respectively.

Ryann Bradford clocked a season-best time of 2:15.30 in the 800 meters to move on to tomorrow. Jennie Thomas raced to a time of 1:02.19in the 400-meter hurdles for the fifth fastest prelim time of the day.

Tomorrow's meet will begin at 10:30a.m. with the women's pole vault, and conclude with the men's 400-meter relay at 7:40p.m.
