The Teams
Texas State enters the game with a 3-1 record and is off to its best start since the 2005 campaign when the Bobcats opened that year with a 6-1 mark before advancing to the semifinals of the NCAA FCS playoffs.
Texas State is ranked 15th in the FCS Coaches Poll and 17th in the The Sports Network/Fathead.com FCS Top 25 poll on October 4 after winning its third straight game. The Bobcats defeated Southern Utah 42-28 on Sept. 25 after upsetting then No. 17 Cal Poly on Sept. 18 and beating Southern Arkansas, 31-17, on Sept. 11.
Meanwhile, the Lions enter the game with a 1-3 record, but that record is very deceiving when you consider that Southeastern Louisiana's three losses are by a combined total of eight points. The Lions began the year with a 27-21 loss at Tulane on Sept. 2 before suffering one-point losses against Lamar (29-28 on Sept. 18) and at Louisiana-Monroe (21-20 on Sept. 25). Southeastern Louisiana's lone victory this season was a 24-10 victory over Tennessee-Martin on Sept. 11.
SERIES HISTORY
This marks the 14th meeting between Texas State and Southeastern Louisiana. The Bobcats own a 12-1 record against the Lions with the lone loss being a 51-50 overtime loss in San Marcos in 2009. Texas State has a 5-0 record against Southeastern Louisiana in Hammond.
WHO'S NEXT?
Following the Southeastern Louisiana game, Texas State will return home for two straight Southland Conference games when the Bobcats play host to Nicholls on October 16 at 6:00 p.m. and Northwestern State on October 23 at 3:00 p.m. in its annual Homecoming game.
