Huntsville, Texas – Four different Bobcats scored Sunday, en route to a 4-1 victory over Sam Houston State, Sunday at Pritchett Field in Huntsville. With the win Texas State finishes the regular season at 11-7-1 overall and 5-3-1 in Southland Conference play.
Texas State got on the board in the first half after an impressive sequence in the 26th minute. Britney Curry and sister Sydney had a 2-on-1 attack but Sydney's shot was deflected wide. On the ensuring corner the ball was sent into the middle and Britney passed it back to Kelsey Bernard who put it in for her third goal of the year.
The goal was the first for the Bobcats in the first half since Nicholls on Oct. 22.
Kendell Weber had an opportunity six minutes later to put the Bobcats up 2-0, but the shot was blocked by a Sam Houston defender just as it got to the goal line.
Lindsey Posner tied it up for the Bearkats at 1-1 in the 41st minute, when she took a shot from about 30 yards out and got it to go in the top right corner.
Texas State regained the lead just a minute later when Ashley Gowda went 1-on-1 with a defender and beat her, sending a cross into the box that was headed in by Weber to make it 2-1.
The Bobcats made it 3-1 in the 69th minute when Alissa Scott sent a pass in past the goal around the six-yard box, that found Felicia Leask for her second goal of the year.
Britney Curry capped the scoring to make it 4-1 in the 82nd minute, taking a pass from Kelsey Bernard in front of the goal and getting past a defender for her 13th goal of the season.
For the game, the Bobcats outshot the Bearkats 15-12, and held the corner kick advantage 9-3.
Texas State will return to action on Thursday Nov. 4 in the first round of the Southland Conference Tournament at the Bobcat Soccer Complex. Texas State will be the hosts for the entire tournament held Nov. 4-7.
