Lance Sewell is in his fourth year at Texas State. He works with the baseball, women’s basketball and soccer programs.
Sewell comes to San Marcos after spending a year at West Virginia where he served as the strength and conditioning coach for the baseball and golf teams.
Prior to his time in Morgantown, Sewell was the strength and condition coach at Tennessee. In that capacity, he was responsible for designing and implementing injury preventions, speed, strength, power and condition programs for the baseball and men’s and women’s tennis programs.
Sewell spent 11 years at Texas where he was the head strength and condition coach for the Longhorns’ baseball (2004-15) and softball programs (2012-15). In addition, he worked with the football team from 2004-09. Sewell spent three years (2008-11) as the head strength and conditioning coach for the women’s golf team and also served one season with the women’s track & field team.
From 2001-04, Sewell was at the University of Miami. He worked with the baseball, men’s and women’s cross country and swim teams.
Sewell was the director of condition for the Cincinnati Reds from 1997-2001 after spending a season with the minor league teams from 1997-98. He spent the 1995 season as an intern in the Chicago White Sox minor league team, the Prince William Cannons. Sewell also served as the personal strength and conditioning coach for Todd Helton of the Colorado Rockies and Olympic softball player Cat Osterman.
As a graduate assistant at Tennessee from 1995-96, Sewell worked directly with quarterback Peyton Manning. He designed baseball-specific programs and assisted with the basketball team. Sewell earned his master’s of science in sport administration from Tennessee as well as a bachelor’s of science in health and fitness from Baylor.
