Todd Haney returns to the Texas State baseball team to serve as the program's Director of Player Development for the 2021 season. It is his second stint with the team after working in the same position during the 2018 and 2019 seasons.
As the Director of Player Development and Analytics, Haney will be responsible for the evaluation and scouting of the Bobcats and their opponents. He will also assist the rest of the coaching staff in preparation for game days.
Since 2018, he has served as the head coach of the Victoria Harbourcats, a summer-collegiate baseball team located in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada and play in the West Coast League. In 2019, the team established 10 WCL offensive records on the way to a 43-18 record, the most wins in team history.

Haney in the summer of 2020 was the hitting and bench coach for the Sugar Land Lightning Sloths of the independent Constellation Energy League. The team finished second in the league in batting average, slugging percentage, hits, doubles, triples and home runs.

Haney was drafted in the 38th round of the MLB Draft by the Seattle Mariners in 1987. He made his major league debut on Sept. 9, 1992 with the Montreal Expos, starting at second base against the St. Louis Cardinals.

The 1994-96 seasons were spent with the Chicago Cubs as he split time between AAA and MLB. After playing for the Houston Astros and Mariners organizations during the 1997 season, Haney was with the New York Mets for his final two years in 1998 and 1999 before retiring in 2000.

Haney played two years at Texas (1986-87) where he was a two-time All-Southwest Conference First Team selection. He would be named to both the All-SWC Tournament and All-NCAA Central Regional Teams in 1987 and helped the Longhorns advance to the College World Series. Both years were also spent playing alongside former Texas State head coach Ty Harrington.

Prior to arriving in Austin, Haney played the 1984 and 1985 seasons at Panola Junior College. His sophomore season saw him earn NJCAA All-American honors.

Graduated from the University of Texas in 1989 with a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts. He is married to his wife Kira and the couple have a son, Tanner.
