Kyle Kubitza, a former Texas State player, is in his first season as a graduate assistant coach with the Bobcat baseball program.
Kubitza is currently attending Texas State and is expected to graduate in 2019 with a degree in general studies. He spent his first three collegiate years at Texas State before being drafted in the third round of the 2011 MLB Draft by the Atlanta Braves.
As a player for the Bobcats from 2009-11, Kubitza was a member of three Southland Conference Championship teams and made two NCAA Regional appearances in 2009 and 2011. He was a two-time All-Southland First Team selection as a sophomore and junior. In 2011, he was named to the ABCA All-Region Second Team after batting .310 with 10 home runs, 66 RBIs, 59 runs scored and 16 stolen bases. Kubitza also made the 2010 All-Southland Tournament team.
Prior to his return to San Marcos, Kubitza spent seven years in professional baseball. He played in the Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Texas Rangers and Sugar Land Skeeters organizations. He earned MLB.com Organizational All-Star honors in 2014 and 2015, and was the Braves AA Minor League Player of the Year in 2014. Kubitza made his Major League debut with the Angels in June 2015.
Kubitza is a native of Colleyville, Texas. He is married to the former Kristina Tello, a Texas State softball alum. The couple has one son, Kaleb.
