SAN MACOS, Texas – Texas State football fell to in-state rival UTSA, 31-26, on Saturday afternoon in San Marcos. With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 0-2 on the season, while UTSA improves to 2-0.
UTSA got the scoring started off a one-yard pass in the first quarter before the Bobcats scored 17 unanswered to close the half and take the lead into the locker room. UTSA rattled off 10 points to tie the score. The two teams traded blows for the remainder of the game and a 25-yard rush with 14 seconds on the clock sealed the victory for the visitors.
Brad Jackson threw for 192 yards and a touchdown, while adding 39 yards on the ground with a six-yard score. Saturday was the 11th career game Jackson has finished with a passing and rushing touchdown. Jackson connected with
Chris Dawn, Jr., who finished the game with a team-high seven receptions for 54 yards, for a 13-yard score.
Kylen Evans led Bobcat receivers with 96 yards, a career high.
On the ground,
Torrance Burgess Jr. exploded for a career- and game-high 149 yards off 17 carries, while
Davian Jackson scored his second touchdown of the season and finished with a career-best 99 yards.
Defensively, TXST was led by freshman
Jayden Bradley, who registered a game-high 13 tackles.
Ryan Nolan finished with 11.
In his first action as a Bobcat,
Jacob Bonilla connected on a 51-yard field goal, the longest of his career.
