Bobcats Drop Final Midweek of the Season

SAN ANTONIO – The final midweek game of the regular season for Texas State (31-22) ended in a seven-inning loss to UTSA (35-17) by the score of 19-4 at Roadrunner Field.

Picking up the win was Kendall Dove after throwing 1.2 innings out of the bullpen and giving up a run on four hits. Titan Targac (2-5) took the loss as he surrendered eight runs, only one of them being earned, on five hits and recorded two outs.

Working an inning apiece in relief was Shane Connell, Alizaeh Gutierrez, Chase Mora and Tyler Walton. Recording two strikeouts were Colby Diaz and Walton while Cameron O'Banan, Gutierrez and Mora punched out one batter each.

Both Blake Beheler and Austin Munguia went 2-for-2 at the plate and hit a home run. Beheler smacked a two-run round tripper and Munguia's homer was a solo shot. Also driving in a run was Brady Boles.

Three errors in the first inning proved costly for TXST as the Roadrunners would plate eight runs in the frame.

Mora laced a two-out double down the left field line in the second. His base knock gave him 409 career total bases to break the program's record. The senior would come home when Boles sent a 2-1 pitch to center field for a single.

UTSA responded with three more runs in the bottom of the inning on just one hit. Five more runs were tacked on in the third to extend the host's advantage to 16-1.

With two gone in the fourth, Beheler crushed a 1-0 pitch 427 feet to left field for a two-run homer. The blast was the first of the freshman's collegiate career.

The Roadrunners answered back in the next half inning with three more runs, two of which were scored on sacrifice flies.

Munguia would tally the last run of the game in the top of the seventh when he sent a 0-2 pitch over the left field wall for his first homer of the season.

Next up for the Bobcats is the final Sun Belt Conference series of the season that begins on Thursday against Marshall. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. from Irvine-Rasmussen Ballpark.
