Texas State Starts Series at App State With 4-2 Win

BOONE, N.C. – Texas State shortstop Sami Hood continued her hot streak of form with a 2 RBI night in the Bobcats 4-2 win at App State on Thursday night. She paired with Karmyn Bass and Kat Zarate for the RBI to help Texas State to the win.

Additionally, Maddy Azua tossed the complete game in the circle, surrendering just two runs while striking out 10 batters.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
App State got on the board first, despite Texas State getting three hits in the first two innings. App State scored in the bottom of the 3rd after a Makayla McClain double helped her to score when Macy Hamby singled.

Texas State answered that immediately, though, with a solo home run by Zarate to lead off the fourth inning. Following that up was a double by Harley Vestal and a walk by Harvey. Vestal would go on to be thrown out at home, but Kate Bubela reached on the play. Bubela and Harvey came around to score on Hood's double to right center.

From there, Azua continued to tally up her strikeouts. She recorded one more in the 4th, two in the 5th and another in the 6th.

Texas State added an insurance run in the 7th with an RBI double from Bass who scored Reeves, the innings leadoff walk.

App State pulled back a run in the 7th after a trio of singles loaded the bases for the Mountaineers. The RBI ground out was the lone run the Mountaineers were able to score though. Azua got her 10th strikeout of the night with two runners in scoring position to end the night.

After today's 4-2 win, Texas State is now 35-18 on the season and improve to 15-7 in Sun Belt play.
