Strood Throws Complete Game Shutout on Senior Day vs Coastal Carolina

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State softball clinched the series with a 5-0 win against Coastal Carolina as the team celebrated its first Senior Day on Saturday afternoon.

It was a complete game shutout for Emma Strood in a two-hit outing where she struck out five batters. Alongside that was three runs scored from Kate Bubela to help Texas State get the 5-0 win.

How it Happened:
Strood started in the circle for the Bobcats, surrendering one of her two hits on the night in the first inning, and walking one of two she walked throughout the game. She'd go on to retire 16-consecutive batters after the first inning in her shutout effort.

Texas State opened the scoring in the second inning, starting with a single from Sydney Harvey to lead off the inning, From there, she'd advance on Kate Bubela's walk and advance to third on Megan Kelnar's fly out. Bubela went on to steal second. The pair scored on a Sami Hood fly out. Hood would go 1-1 in the game with two RBI.

Texas State added two more runs on in the fourth inning. Bubela was at the center of it all again, getting on with a single up the middle. From there, she advanced on a Kelnar walk. Bubela would come around to score on an RBI walk from Keely Williams. After a pitching change, the Bobcats would score one more on an RBI fielder's choice from Karmyn Bass.

The Bobcats capitalized on a misplay by the Chanticleers' right fielder in the 5th inning for its final run of the night. Kelnar singled to right field to get the ball in play, but Bubela would come around to score on the hit and a fielding error.

Strood allowed just the two base runners in the final two innings to preserve her shutout on the afternoon. The win was Strood's 7th of the season and fourth complete game shutout of the year.

After today's 5-0 win, Texas State is now 33-18 on the season and improve to 13-7 in Sun Belt play.
