SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State softball closed out its 2026 home slate with a 6-2 win on Senior Day in Bobcat Softball Stadium. The game-winning hit was a grand slam from the bat of senior first basemen
Aiyana Coleman in the bottom of the 6
th.
Alongside Coleman's night was RBI singles from
Harley Vestal and
Sami Hood to tie the game after Coastal Carolina went up 2-0 in the first. Maddy Azua tossed six innings and got her 23
rd win on the season in the outing.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Coastal Carolina struck first with three-consecutive singles to load the bases. From there, they score one on a sac fly and one scored on an error. The Bobcats would play six scoreless innings to end the night.
Texas State found an answer for one of the runs in the bottom half of the first inning, after a
Karmyn Bass walk got the first baserunner of the game for Texas State. From there, she came around to score on a wild pitch and an RBI single from Vestal.
Azua retired the side in order in the 2
nd, and allowed just one hit in the 3
rd to keep the Chanticleers bats at bay before retiring the side in order in the 4
th.
Kate Bubela doubled in the 4
th to put a runner in scoring position, she advanced to third on a fly out, going on to score and tie the game on
Sami Hood's single.Â
The game remained tied while Azua battled to limit the runners the Chanticleers were able to get.Â
The Bobcats were able to find success in the 6
th, beginning the inning with two four-pitch walks from
Megan Kelnar and Hood. From there, the bases got loaded by a Bass bunt single. It was no one else than the senior first basemen
Aiyana Coleman who ultimately found the swing to win the game. The four-run home run was Coleman's 15
th of the year, her 32
nd of her career at Texas State. The single swing won the Bobcats the game in the end.
Analisa Soliz came in to close the game out, allowing a hit but striking out a batter in the process. She'd hold on to the 6-2 lead to get the Bobcats the win on Senior Day.
