Texas State Drops Midweek vs Baylor

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State softball dropped its final midweek of the season in 4-3 fashion against Baylor on Wednesday night.

Despite the Bobcats scoring three runs, two from sacrifice flys, it wasn't enough as the Bears scored four to come away with the win.

How it Happened:
Texas State scored the first run of the ballgame, dropping just its second game of the season when scoring first. This came after Strood started the game and only allowed one base runner via error. The run came off the bat of Karmyn Bass, a sacrifice fly out to left field to score Keely Williams who led the game off with a double.

Texas State put on three runners on three walks in the 2nd inning, but were unable to score.

The third inning was all Bears, though. Despite Strood getting two quick outs, one strikeout and one fly out, a sequence of five straight hits and a wild pitch helped the Bears get three runs. From there, Maddy Azua came in to pitch and surrendered one more via an error, helping Baylor to a 4-1 lead through three innings.

Texas State answered back in the bottom half of the inning, but only were able to plate two runs. A lead off walk from Sydney Harvey turned into her at third base on a Karmyn Bass single. From there, the bases were loaded when Aiyana Coleman was walked. A Kat Zarate single scored on run, followed up by a Harley Vestal sac-fly to make it a one run game.

Neither side was able to plate a run in the final three innings of the game. With just three hits between the two sides, runners for both sides were limited. Azua closed out the game without allowing anymore runs, but the Bobcat bats went quiet and Baylor was able to hang on for the 4-3 win.

After today's 3-4 loss, Texas State is now 31-18 on the season and stay at 11-7 in Sun Belt play.
