SAN MARCOS, Texas – A two-run home run from
Justin Vossos in the seventh inning was the difference Tuesday night as Texas State (26-15) defeated UIW (18-20) by a score of 3-1 at Irvine-Rasmussen Ballpark.
Â
The long ball from Vossos was one of just four hits on a rainy night for the Bobcats. Three of the base knocks went for extra bases that included a leadoff homer by
Dawson Park in the bottom of the first.
Â
Ethan Farris hit a single and scored on Vossos' long ball. The other hit was a double off the bat of
Manny Salas.
Â
Picking up the win was
Cameron O'Banan (2-0) after he retired all three batters his faced that included one via a strikeout.
Sam Hall set the Cardinas down in order in the ninth with two punch outs to earn his first save of the season. Ashton Perkins (3-2) surrendered the go-ahead runs to take the loss.
Â
Titan Targac made his second straight midweek straight and threw a season-high five innings while matching his career best of six strikeouts. Throwing a scoreless inning out of the bullpen was
Keller Eberly and
Dylan Kerbow with two and one punch outs, respectively.
Â
UIW's lone run came in the fourth when Colin Cymbalista reached base via a TXST error. He advanced to third when
Cole Tabor doubled to right center and then scored on a passed ball.
Â
Next up for the Bobcats is a trip to take on eighth-ranked Coastal Carolina this weekend beginning on Friday at 5 p.m. CT.
