SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State softball's offense was quieted in game two versus the Thundering Herd as they suffered a 2-1 loss on Saturday afternoon.
How it Happened:Â
Maddy Azua started in the circle for the Bobcats, tossing 2.2 innings while allowing four walks and striking out two batters. She did not allow any runs. The left-handed pitcher started and ended the first inning with her two strikeouts.
It was a game of long at-bats at the start, with neither side finding any runs in the first three innings, but putting both starting pitchers over 50 pitches in the first two innings of work.Â
Azua loaded the bases on a trio of walks in the top of the third, which is when
Emma Strood came in to pitch. Strood was able to get a fly out to escape the jam in the third.
Marshall scored both its runs in the 5
th inning, beginning with a leadoff home run. From there, she gave up back-to-back singles to put runners in scoring position. Ultimately, the second run came on a sac-fly.
Texas State pulled back one run in the 6
th on an RBI single from Coleman, but a fly out from
Harley Vestal ended the innings.
Texas State tried to find an answer in the 7
th, putting a runner in scoring position from
Kate Bubela's single. Ultimately, though, a pair of strikeouts would end the game.Â
After today's 2-1 loss, Texas State is now 21-14 on the season and 4-4 in Sun Belt play.
