Bobcats Top Georgia State 4-1 for First Sun Belt Win

SAN MARCOS, Texas— Texas State women's tennis closed out the weekend with a 4-1 victory over Georgia State on Saturday morning in a neutral-site match at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.

The win improves the Bobcats to 9-5 overall this season and 1-1 in Sun Belt Conference play. 

Texas State secured the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. Then in singles play, the Bobcats picked up three wins to secure the match.

Doubles
On court one, Olivia Collins and Ireland Simme set the tone with a 6-2 victory over Zeynep Erbakan and Maria Paredes.

Chantajah Mills and Emily Niers followed with a 6-4 win on court three against Mia Petrovic and Lamiss Haouas to clinch the doubles point for the Bobcats.

The match on court two featuring Stoney Cooks and Charlotte Roesch was left unfinished at 5-5.

Singles
Anastasia Radovanovic claimed the first singles match for the Bobcats on court six with a 6-0, 3-0 lead before a retirement.

Georgia State's lone point came on court one, where Maria Paredes defeated Emily Niers 6-2, 6-0.

Stoney Cooks added another point on court five, leading 6-2, 5-4 before her opponent retired to extend the Bobcats lead to 3-1.

Tadiwa Mauchi earned a dominant straight-set victory to secure the team victory on court three, defeating Sveva Bernardi 6-2, 6-1.

Texas State women's tennis will return to action next Saturday at 11 a.m. against Louisiana Tech in Ruston, Louisiana at the LA Tech Tennis Complex.
