Bobcats Drop Series Opener at Louisiana

LAFAYETTE, Louisiana – Despite scoring first, Texas State was unable to find an answer for late-game runs from the Ragin' Cajuns and dropped their series opener 2-1 on Friday night.

The Bobacts lone run of the night was on a bases loaded walk from Kat Zarate. Despite Azua tossing the complete game and striking out six batters, the two runs she surrendered were enough for Louisiana to take the game.

How it Happened:
Texas State started the game off well, with Keely Williams leading the game off with a double. She advance to third after an intentional walk of Aiyana Coleman and Harley Vestal being hit by a pitch. From there, Kat Zarate was walked in four pitches for the first and only run of the game for Texas State.

After that, UL made a pitching change who would go on to allow just three hits and strikeout five Bobcats the rest of the game.

Azua tossed three scoreless frames, beginning with the bottom of the first where she allowed a leadoff double but then got two pop ups and a strikeout to keep UL off the board.

She struck out a batter each in both the second and third innings. In the fourth, Azua struck out two batters but sandwiched between them was a solo home run for UL to tie the game.

UL scored their second and ultimately winning run on a double after the leadoff runner got on from a single.
Texas State was retired in order in the 6th and 7th to end the game.

After today's 2-1 loss, Texas State is now 19-11 on the season and 2-2 in Sun Belt play.
