SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State softball suffered a 6-3 loss to the ULM Warhawks in game two of the series.
The Warhawks outhit the Bobcats 10-7 but timely hitting helped ULM get on the board early and maintain a lead throughout.Â
How it Happened:Â
Emma Strood started in the circle for Texas State, tossing 1.2 innings and allowing four runs on five hits in her outing. She started the day with back-to-back singles, the Warhawks reached on error by
Aiyana Coleman and scored their first run then.Â
Texas State had the bases loaded in the bottom half of the inning, but a double play ended the inning.
ULM scored three runs off Strood in the second inning after a trio of singles loaded the bases. From there, a foul-out sacrifice fly scored the first of the three runs. Morgan Brown then single to right field for the second and third, making it a 4-0 game.
Abigail Jennings came in to pitch at that point, and the Bobcats had an answer for two of the runs in the bottom of the 2
nd. Texas State loaded the bases, then
Keely Williams was walked for one run. The second came on an RBI groundout from
Kate Bubela.
Neither side added any runs until the fifth, when ULM added two on another RBI groundout and a bases loaded walk.Â
Aiyana Coleman hit a solo home run in the top of the 7
th to make it a three-run game, but the Bobcats were unable to add any more runs. In the end, ULM won 6-3.
After today's game, Texas State is now 17-9 on the season and 1-1 in Sun Belt play.
