SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State softball got a 1-0 win in 10 innings against ULM to start out Sun Belt play this season. Maddy Azua tossed the complete game for the Bobcats, earning the shutout while allowing just five hits, walking two batters and striking out seven.
Megan Kelnar hit the walk off single down the left field line to win the game, scoring
Harley Vestal who had reached on a fielder's choice.

Azua started in the circle and tossed the complete game, allowing five hits and walking two batters.
Texas State had seven hits on the night, their first coming from
Keely Williams in the leadoff. The Bobcats then loaded the bases with walks in the first inning but were unable to score any runs.
The two sides traded hits through the middle innings of the game, but between Ashanti McDade and Maddy Azua's performances, no runners were able to score. Between the two teams there was 17 runners left on throughout the game.
Texas State had a runner in scoring position in the 7
th, thinking they'd found an answer but a strikeout from
Kate Bubela ended the inning.
Azua retired the side in order in the 8
th and 9
th with her 5
th strikeout of the night in the 9
th.
In the 10
th, Azua gave up a hit but struck out the two batters with a runner in scoring position to get out of the inning and preserve her shutout.
The Bobcats started the bottom of the 10
th with a walk for Bass. From there,
Harley Vestal reached on a fielder's choice. She advanced to second on a
Kat Zarate single, and would go on to score on a batted ball from
Megan Kelnar down the left field line. The RBI single from Kelnar was the lone of the game to end it in the 10
th inning.
After today's game, Texas State is now 17-8 on the season and 1-0 in Sun Belt play.

The Bobcats will continue the series with ULM tomorrow, March 14
th at 2 pm inside Bobcat Softball Stadium. The series finale will be March 15
th at noon with both games streamed on ESPN+. The team will then head to a midweek game at Houston on March 17 for its first road game in over a month.
