Texas State Secures Third Straight Win With 4-3 Decision

SAN MARCOS, Texas– Texas State women's tennis secured its third straight victory Friday, defeating New Mexico State 4-3 in its home opener at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.

The two programs battled closely throughout the match, but Texas State ultimately secured the victory.

The Bobcats and Aggies split the first two doubles matches before Texas State clinched the doubles point in the deciding contest.

The close competition continued in singles play, where the Bobcats won three matches to secure the home-opening victory.

Doubles
Emily Niers and Stoney Cooks competed in the first completed doubles match of the day on court two against Anna Klimova and Montana Parkinson-Lubold. Niers and Cooks battled but dropped the set 6-3.

Sophomores Tadiwa Mauchi and Chantajah Mills finished next on court three against Dora Kurdi and Whitney Moon. Mauchi and Mills evened the doubles score at 1-1 with a 6-3 victory.

In the deciding match, senior Ireland Simme and Olivia Collins secured the doubles point on court one with a tightly contested 6-4 win over Nadia Nemeth and Emma Petton.

Singles
Collins got the Bobcats started in singles play with a straight-set win on court six, defeating Dora Kurdi 6-4, 6-2.

Cooks finished next on court five with a straight-set victory over Klimova, 6-1, 6-3.

On court one, Niers battled Nadia Nemeth but fell in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3, bringing the overall score to 3-1 in favor of Texas State.

The remaining three singles matches all went to a third set.

On court three, Simme faced Parkinson-Lubold. After dropping the first set 6-2, Simme responded with a 6-4 win in the second but fell 6-3 in the third as New Mexico State cut the lead to 3-2.

Charlotte Roesch competed on court two against Whitney Moon. Moon edged the first set in a tiebreak, 7-6 (7-5), before Roesch answered with a 6-4 second-set win. Moon ultimately took the third set 6-2 to tie the match at 3-3.

In the deciding match, Mauchi battled Petton on court four. Mauchi won the first set 6-0 but dropped the second 6-2. The match went to a third-set tiebreak, where Mauchi pulled away 7-5 to clinch the 4-3 victory for the Bobcats.

Texas State is now on a three-match winning streak and will continue its homestand Sunday with a noon match against Sam Houston State at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
