SAN MARCOS, Texas – After trailing 49-34 following the third quarter, the Texas State women's basketball team scored 25 points over the final 10 minutes to mount a furious comeback but ultimately fell short losing to South Alabama, 64-59, at home on Saturday. Prior to the game,
Deja Jones and
Myri Walker were honored as Bobcat graduates with Saturday serving as the final home contest of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
After a low-scoring first quarter that saw the teams come out tied 7-7, the sides settled in with TXST (11-16, 7-9 Sun Belt) opening the second quarter on a 5-0 run for its first lead of the game. The home team led until the 4:40 mark of the frame, when South Alabama (10-17, 2-13 Sun Belt) was able to tie the score at 16-16 and eventually take the lead with 3:45 to play in the first half. A pair of made free throws by
KP Parr pulled the Bobcats within one with 1:34 to play, but South Alabama was able to hold TXST scoreless and take the 26-23 lead into the locker room.
The Jaguars led by as many as 15 in the third quarter after shooting 69% from the field and took that 15-point lead into the final 10 minutes. USA scored the opening bucket before TXST went on a six-point run to close the gap to 51-40 with 6:10 to play. Following a made three from the Jaguars at the 2:07 mark, TXST scored eight unanswered to pull within three with 36 seconds to play, but South Alabama put the game away with a layup in the closing seconds. The Bobcats finished the fourth quarter 57% from the field fueled by Jones, who went 3-for-4 from the field to spark TXST.
Jones led TXST with a game-high 15 points, while
Kyra Anderson and
Saniya Burks were also in double figures at 14 and 10, respectively. Anderson also led the Bobcats with eight rebounds, while
KP Parr had a game-high four assists.

Texas State hits the road for the final time this regular season with a two-game road swing at ULM (Feb. 25) and Arkansas State (Feb. 27) to close out the campaign. Following the trip, the Bobcats will learn their seed for the 2026 Sun Belt Conference Championship. The event will be held March 3-9 in Pensacola, Florida. TXST currently sits eighth in the league standings.
